August 13 -- (Reading) The Berks County Community Foundations Board of Directors today announced the election of Robert W. Cardy of Wyomissing as its chairman. He replaces Sidney D. Kline, Jr. of Wyomissing Hills, who will continue to serve on the board as vice chairman.
Cardy retired in June as chairman and chief executive officer of Carpenter Technology Corporation. He has served on the Foundations board since its creation in 1994, most recently as vice chairman.
Berks County is fortunate to have an executive with Bob Cardys commitment to the community as chairman of the Community Foundation board, Murphy said. Through Bobs leadership, the Foundation will build on the work of previous chairs who assured BCCFs continued growth and vitality.
Cardy is the fourth person to chair the Foundation. In addition to Kline, past chairs include Donald van Roden, Wyomissing, and the late Alfred G. Hemmerich, who founded the organization.
Other new board appointments include the election of Dennis M. Draeger of Wyomissing to a three-year term, bringing the total number of board members to 24. Draeger is currently chairman, president and chief executive officer of Carpenter Technology Corporation.
Kevin K. Murphy of Jefferson Township was reelected president of the Foundation. Andrew Maier II, former president of Maiers Bakery, was reelected treasurer and J. William Widing III, Esq. of Stevens and Lee was reelected secretary. Karen A. Rightmire, president of the United Way of Berks County, was reelected assistant treasurer.
