Grants from the Margaret B. Moeller Fund

Boyertown area families who are caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease are eligible to apply for a grant from the Margaret B. Moeller Fund of Berks County Community Foundation. The fund provides grants that pay for several days of the services of a home care companion. Applications may be submitted at any time.

The fund was established in memory of Margaret B. Moeller was a loving wife and mother who spent her last years in the care of her husband, William, with help from home-care companions who helped make her comfortable as she struggled with Alzheimer's disease.

After Margaret passed away last year, Margaret's family created a charitable fund in her memory to help Boyertown-area families who are caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease afford home-care companions, aides or other providers of respite care.

"People want to stay in their homes as long as possible," Bill said. "Home-care companions can help you keep your loved one in that home environment."

Home-care companions offer help with things like personal hygiene, cooking, light housekeeping and errands like driving your loved one to the hairdresser.

"There are many people who could benefit greatly from the services of a home-care companion but who simply can't afford it," Bill said. "This fund was created to help them get the respite they need as caregivers with the peace of mind that their loved one is in good hands."
