Grants & Loans Made from the Metropolitan Edison Sustainable Energy Fund
The following loans and grants have been made from the Metropolitan Edison Sustainable Energy Fund to date:
Loans:
- The County Commissioners of Adams County, Pennsylvania received a low-interest loan of $291,877 for the construction of a solar-powered hot-water system in the new Adams County Prison. The loan will be repaid over the next 10 years.
Grants:
- Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (Penn Futures) received $12,500 for the "Outreach to Industry Program of the MAREC Project - Mid Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition." This project is intended to substantially increase the development of renewable generation in the Mid-Atlantic region based on strong consumer demand.
- Clean Energy Funds Network received $2,195 toward a joint project of the Sustainable Energy Funds of Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. During the project period, the funds will work cooperatively on four sustainable energy areas: public education, clean energy project financing, distributed generation market development and photovitalic market development.
- The Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania received $5,750 to promote environmentally responsible design, planning, construction, and operation of the "built environment" through education, outreach and networking.
- The Hanover Public School District received $25,000 toward the construction a high-performance "green" elementary school that will minimize energy consumption, maximize use of sustainable materials, provide premium interior air quality, and model environmentally sound practices.
- The Manufacturers Association of Berks County received $13,000 to study load leveling technology.
- Penn State University College of Engineering received $109,562 to create and conduct Penn State energy conservation programs in Pennsylvania middle schools.
- The Regional Economic Development District received $25,000 for the Ethanol Project, which studies the feasibility of developing an ethanol plant in South Central Pennsylvania that uses grain processing for renewable energy.
- The Sustainable Energy Fund of Central Eastern Pennsylvania received $5,000 for the Sustainable Energy Venture Capital Fund.
