What is Philanthropy?

Philanthropy, by definition, means to be charitable for the betterment of mankind. We think philanthropy means changing the world. It often satisfies a personal need for the donor, is done with passion, and takes a planned, conscious effort.

Why establish a fund instead of giving directly to a favorite charity/public benefit organization?
A Community Foundation fund ensures broader oversight and long-term benefits. You can set up an endowment at the Community Foundation to benefit one or more specific charities or charitable causes, forever, with the knowledge that if anything ever happened to that charity your gift would continue to serve the community.

What is a permanent endowment fund?
The Community Foundation primarily handles endowment funds. In that way, gifts established today remain into perpetuity. A portion of the earnings are used to carry out the donor's wishes on an annual basis and the principal remains intact for future generations.

Can I name and establish a fund?
Yes, you can name and establish a fund. Funds are named any way you wish, so a family or corporate name can be used. Or, if you prefer, funds can remain anonymous. The Community Foundation is here to help you achieve your own personal charitable objectives.
