Reading Buccaneers Are Marching Towards A Championship

28 color guard members, 40 percussionists and 60 who play brass instruments such as the bugle and french horn make up this musical group of performers, known as the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps.

The talented group is made up of teachers, performers, composers and educators with membership extending from the Berks County area to New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. Practice is mainly held on the weekends, giving the members the ability to maintain their other personal commitments.

The busiest season is during the summer, when the Bucs perform in concerts, parades and community events with a purpose of providing its members with a unique performing experience. The Bucs also compete in summer field shows, which is a performance of brass and percussion along with an interpretation of music through dance movement. Undefeated since 2005, the 128 members are pursuing their sixth consecutive Drum Corps Associates Championship this summer.
